A RING-FAULT DELINEATION OF AN ANCIENT VOLCANIC CALDERA BASED ON 3-D GRAVITY INVERSE MODELING IN MAJENANG REGION, INDONESIA

چکیده

Calderas are important geological features in all volcanic environments due to give directives clues of resources such as geothermal system, mineralization, or even oil and gas potential reserved. The ability recognizing these specific play an role the exploration activities. A good understanding settings will bring right direction make activities becomes optimized cost effective. Gravity method is commonly used for preliminary study almost any cases lightweight, low-cost, figure out a wide region quickly. has excellent lateral resolution but it limitation with vertical resolution. Applying depth-weighting mechanism makes, inverse-modeling result interpretable. According research, there northwest-southeast dextral strike-slip fault area, which belongs Pamanukan-Cilacap Fault Zone (PCFZ). Circular anomaly pattern also delineated interpreted ring-fault ancient caldera area. Several high gravity located within caldera-rims lava domes intrusion rocks. eruption center point estimated at around Majenang city. PCFZ behaves weak zones area where magmatism rise through create volcano, now remain Caldera.

Paterae on Io: A new type of volcanic caldera?

Paterae, defined by the International Astronomical Union as irregular crater[s], or complex one[s] with scalloped edges, are some of the most prominent topographic features on Io. Paterae on Io are unique, yet in some aspects they resemble calderas known and studied on Earth, Mars, and Venus. They have steep walls, flat floors, and arcuate margins and sometimes exhibit nesting, all typical of t...

Caldera rim collapse: A hidden volcanic hazard

Following the emblematic fl ank collapse of Mount St Helens in 1981, numerous models of flank sliding have been proposed. These models have allowed to largely improve the understanding of mechanisms involved in such landslides, which represent a tremendous risk for populations living around volcanoes. In this article, a new mode of landslide formation, related to buried calderas, is described. ...

Numerical models for ground deformation and gravity changes during volcanic unrest: simulating the hydrothermal system dynamics of a restless caldera

Ground deformation and gravity changes in restless calderas during periods of unrest can signal an impending eruption and thus must be correctly interpreted for hazard evaluation. It is critical to differentiate variation of geophysical observables related to volume and pressure changes induced by magma migration from shallow hydrothermal activity associated with hot fluids of magmatic origin r...
